My Experience With FitBit And How You Can Learn From It.

I have personally used FitBit for 18 months now. My first month, I definitely noticed new habits forming from the accountability you adopt when logging and measuring your stats. The magical part of Fitbit though, is it continues to track and update via Bluetooth as you move throughout your day. As my body became more efficient with fat burning, my energy naturally increased and I started to become more active. Fitbit was logging my progress and had new exercises and goals set for each milestone accomplished. As I became more active Fitbit started to act more as an exercise training aid over solely nutrition and macros logging.

As a type 2 diabetic, I became insulin resistant in the mornings. My cardio days- were what stabilized my blood sugar and I relied on my Fitbit to take the planning out of workouts and solely used apps for cardio regimens to help me evolve and push myself. I simply didn’t have enough time to plane and start new workouts every day, but I knew I needed to keep going in order to keep my blood sugar consistent. I discovered an app called carb manager that syncs perfectly with my fitbit. Carb manager stores my in dept health stats including medical logs and will automatically sync my caloric and macros allowances based on my fitbit activity reported for the day (Click Here to learn more about carb manager in my “Keto & Does It Work?” article). This made life so much easier to centralize everything into carb manager from a data collection perspective and let fitbit work passively throughout my day.

So, now that my body is conditioned and in a healthy place with my diabetes- I am now starting to burn energy more steadily and consistently- and fitbit has changed my goals based on my current measurements and weigh ins. I am now achieving longer distances, motivated by the coach apps, get stretching and exercise ideas via app on my phone, and I can even track my sleep and wellness stats.

How Can I Use My FitBit?

The best way to use FitBit, for me, was to introduce it in my daily routine. I personally log all of my food and measurements in carb manager and let fit bit count my steps and activity in the background. I will periodically update my stats or sync my phone throughout the day just to make sure I have current info before making food choices, or planning my running route.

Specifically, the Ionic has a nice screen size and allows you to access some apps on the face of your watch. I LOVE customizing the face of my watch to view a quick screen shot of my stats on the view screen.

Fitbit also has purchase power! Yes folks, believe it or not, you can sync apps like you contacless pay wallet, or Starbucks account with your fitbit! It’s been a life saver when I’m quenching for caffeine post workout but don’t have my wallet to pay for an iced coffee. I just load up my e gift card every now and again to keep it funded and I can pay straight from my watch. Seriously. You don’t now what you’re missing out on with this one.

Not only can this watch aid you in a healthier lifestyle and integrate into your shopping habits, you can also use it for practical time management by setting alarms, reminders, pushing text through from your phone, it’ll alert you when you have a call coming in… this thing is literally my personal assistant. I really do feel like I can stay plugged in while taking time for self care.

      1. Hi Rachel, I’m still pretty new to Keto but I am feeling the benefits already although I am still learning all the time and sometimes get caught out by certain foods especially when eating out.  I didn’t realise there was a fitbit to help, I always thought they just tracked steps, heart rate and so on.  This Ionic watch could be a game-changer for me but I wondered is it complicated to use?  Do you have to take a long time setting all the software and apps up?  It certainly looks very smart and the screen looks pretty clear in the image there.  Do you find it easy to access the data quickly when you are out and about?  I don’t want to be one of those people you see sometimes fiddling and struggling to read their fitbit lol  Thanks for the review, it certainly looks like a product worth investigating.

        1. Ally,

Thanks so much for your reply! I don’t consider myself tech savvy at all and it was a breeze to set up. If you know how to sync via bluetooth on your phone, you’ll be FINE! The great thing about Fitbit is that the user interface doesn’t take much to learn and its designed very intuitively. I would suggest any fitbit with a large screen to start with- just to maximize the potential of growth as you evolve in your keto life. I hope this insight helps you abit.. I’d be curious to know how you like it should you decide on joining the keto fitbit frenzy 🙂 you can find me in the fitbit community if you need a  keto buddy to do challenges with :)here’s my public profile:  //

      2. Hi Rachel,
thank for the review. I wonder I am not used to wearing anything on my wrist for a long time now. How does it feel using it daily? Is it not too heavy? Or how does it feel while exercising on sweaty skin? Do you take it off for showering?
        Thank you

        1. it did take some time to get used to for me. At first, I kept forgetting to put it on. I eventually learned that it only needs an hour or so to fully charge, so now I take it off before my shower and its the last thing i put on after dressing. Typically the charge will last about 72 hours and I am highly active with the apps- so that make it more convenient to start including into a routine as well. For me, I also notice it less on my hand that i am less active with. Example I am right handed so I wear the watch on my left hand. It seems to get less “in the way” on my non dominant side and after a few weeks it became second nature to include into my routine.

      3. Hello,
Our modern life is now too much digitalize. It is next to impossible to keep a diary and maintain everything. And for that reason, I think fitbit is perfect solution. It gives u update about every important things which will make u fit. Not only that, paying ur bill through fitbit is just amazing. Relax our mind by playing songs through fitbit is just amazing. And most importantly, it helps to keep ur body perfect and capable to cope up with Keto diet which is just amazing

        1. Radeet, I could not agree more with you! I am all about steam lining and managing my time as efficiently as possible…. my fitbit and my iphone are central to keeping me organized and connected to all categories in life in general 🙂

      4. That’s great you can continue to track things with your Fitbit. Going into shopping centers in massive amounts of plaza is everywhere where you can walk and Moss can all help you to get to your goal. I have experiences as well with a Fitbit. Although at times it did seem a little clunky, I’m sure the new models have improved. Keep up the great work and regimen.

        1. Andrew Yes@ The older models are abit clunky but they have slimmed down quite a bit in recent years. I love the walkign the mall bit.. I live in UK currently and it rains all year. It’s nice to have indoor back up plans to keep consistent 🙂
